The Centre for the Development of Christian Ministry @ Trinity Theological College (TTC) which organises courses to equip Christians for lifelong learning, personal growth and ministry will be offering two evening courses from July to August 2016.
Course 5: 1 Corinthians
Whenever the gospel is preached, the fundamental question that confronts every believer is this: “How can those who have been called to Christ be faithful to the Lord while still belong, in so many ways, to their secular world”? At heart is the complex issue of the relationship between the Christian gospel and culture.
The fledging church at Corinth faced similar challenge. Secular culture and way of life had begun to seep into the church. The challenges facing the new believers in Corinth are not unlike the challenges facing the 21st century church.
Dates: 13 Jul – 31 Aug (7 Wednesday evenings, no class on 24 Aug)
Time and Place: 7:30 pm to 9:45 pm, St. Andrew’s Cathedral North Transept Hall, 11 St Andrew's Road, Singapore 178959
Instructor: Rev Dr Oh Boon Leong completed his PhD in New Testament at King’s College, London. His special area of studies is the writing and theology of the Apostle Paul. He received an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and the ThM from the University of Aberdeen. He is married and serves as the Senior Pastor of Mount Carmel Bible-Presbyterian Church.
Course 6: Christians and the Media: Constructive Engagement
As Christians we are daily consumers, passive and active, of mass media. In Singapore, we use social media, watch ‘live’ streamed events and read papers. What should our response be when we read something that disturbs us or observe an event that may espouses values contrary to ours? Through this course, we will explore what are the forms of constructive engagement available to us. Participants must be prepared to “consume” different media during the eight weeks.
