The 2nd Singapore Company of The Boys’ Brigade (BB), the first BB Company to be sponsored by a Methodist church in Singapore, celebrated its 85th Anniversary with a Thanksgiving Service and Dinner at the Singapore Island Country Club on 17 Sep 2016.
The Thanksgiving Service was led by Mr Chan Choon Seng (LCEC Chairperson, Paya Lebar Methodist Church) and the Rev Philip Heng (Senior Pastor, Galilee Bible-Presbyterian Church) who were “Old Boys” of the Company, as well as the Rev Michael Wong (retired Elder with Trinity Annual Conference and ex-Chaplain) and the Rev Kenneth Huang (Pastor-in-Charge of its sponsoring church, Kampong Kapor Methodist Church).
The Rev Heng preached, examining the various aspects of the BB programme and exhorting the current officers of the Company to remember that the most important thing of all in the BB ministry is “the advancement of Christ’s kingdom”.
About 260 Boys, Old Boys and guests attended the dinner graced by the Guest-of-Honour, the Rev Ho Chee Sin, a retired bishop of The Methodist Church in Singapore and a distinguished Old Boy of the Company. The Company was also honoured by the presence of two seniors – Dr Robert Loh, aged 92, and Mr Arthur Tan, aged 88 – who were members of the Company before the Japanese Occupation of Singapore (1942-1945).
The dinner saw performances by the Company’s revived “Pipes & Drums Band” of eight years, and a contemporary band composed of Old Boys which put a new spin on traditional BB songs. The Company also thanked God for the strong partnership between KKMC, the Company and its current sponsoring school of 35 years, Victoria School.
The highlight of the dinner was the photo-taking session in which Boys of various eras took group pictures – Boys from the 1950s to the present day. It was a vivid testimony of the many who have been blessed by the greatness and faithfulness of God in the Company. To God be the Glory!
