100 get updated on mission work

MMS PRAYER NIGHT

I WAS greatly encouraged. About 100 people spent three hours chatting informally with some of our Methodist Missions Society (MMS) missionaries and staff, getting updated on the key happenings in the seven countries we are involved in and then praying with us.

We are convinced that your prayers are vital for the MMS. Apart from Him all our labours are in vain.

I would like to share with you four items for prayer:

1. MITE
Jesus noticed the two mites, the two small copper coins, that a widow put into the offering and commended her sacrificial giving. For us at the MMS, MITE stands for our Missions Internship Training Exposure programme. We believe the Lord is calling some of you to spend some time between one month and a year on the mission field.

Lord, please remind anyone who may have forgotten Your call for them to spend some extended time on the mission field.

2. MPV
MPV usually stands for Multi-Purpose Vehicle. For us at the MMS, MPV stands for Mission Partners and Volunteers. The MMS is the whole community of Methodists pooling some of our resources to do missions together.

The fact that you are interested enough to be reading this article suggests to me that the Lord may want you to volunteer some of your time and resources to help the work of the MMS.

Lord, thank You for the many MPVs who help the work of the MMS on a regular basis. Please nudge more of Your servants to volunteer with the MMS.

3. Replacement for Mrs Valerie Soo
At the end of February, I received Valerie’s letter of resignation. She had prepared us for this day six months ago – but many of us were hoping she would change her mind.

Valerie started with the MMS on March 14, 1997. At that time there were only two staff members at the MMS – the Rev Dr Clarence Lim and Valerie. She did everything – she handled all finance and administrative matters, she was PA to the Rev Dr Lim, she looked after our missionaries, she produced the Harvest Force, she organised the fund-raising banquet, etc. I have often described her as the glue that holds the MMS together. She will be sorely missed.

Dear Lord, thank You so much for generous donors who in spite of these difficult times continue to give sacrificially. Thank You for Valerie – her sacrifice and dedication have brought great blessing to countless people over so many years.

Please guide her and Ken as they start a new venture of faith together. Please help us to find the person of Your choosing who will rise up to take her place.

4. The Methodist School in Cambodia
The school is doing very well with a current enrolment of 540 students. We have to begin construction in April so that the new classrooms will be ready by October. We need to raise $500,000.

Lord, thank You for the dedicated team of staff and volunteers that are now serving in Phnom Penh. Please provide all the resources we will need to complete this project.

The MMS is your missions society. If you would like more information about the MMS or if you want to receive short (it will take you less than 60 seconds to read) email updates for prayer, please email me: mms@methodist.org.sg

The Rev Dr Norman Wong is the Executive Director of the Methodist Missions Society.
