On 11 Dec 2019, the Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) Seniors Ministry celebrated Christmas at Faith Methodist Church with a record attendance of about 500 senior adults at the festive worship service themed “A Gift”.
The shofars announced the beginning of the service, and the celebrations began with the Emmanuel ukulele group from Paya Lebar Methodist Church leading the congregation in the well-loved Christmas carols “Joy to the World”, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”.
The Rev Irene Thung, the director of the TRAC Seniors Ministry, reminded the congregation that God is our gift, and she prayed for physical and emotional healing for those present. She and the worship team led in more carols, after which there were special items by
Henry Lim on the harp with his rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?’, followed by Shao Dan’s operatic medley of Yuletide favourites and a Chinese song, “一份礼物” (a gift).
Guest speaker Moses Lim of TV sitcom “Under One Roof” shared in English, Mandarin and Hokkien (and even some Malay!) about the one gift we can truly treasure— God’s beloved Son who gave His life for us all. The 70-year old, whose birthday falls on 12 December, thanked God that he was able to make it to speak at the service, as he had been had been discharged from hospital the previous week after a 10-day stay.
The closing item was the PLMC line dancers—the oldest dancer, Dorcas, is 84 years old and she didn’t miss a step.
Praise the Lord for five members of the congregation who responded to the Rev Irene’s altar call for salvation after her sharing on the significance of Christmas. Desmond Choo, the mayor of North East CDC and MP of Tampines GRC made a surprise appearance.
