Aldersgate Convention 2011 to feature Evangelistic Rally

FOR THE FIRST TIME since the current series of annual Aldersgate Conventions was held in 2002, there will be an Evangelistic Rally during this year’s programme. e rally will be held on the evening of May 21, a Saturday.

The entire programme of Aldersgate Convention 2011 will be held at Toa Payoh Methodist Church from May 20 to 23.

Appropriately, it will begin with a Hymn Festival on the evening of May 20 as Methodists are a “singing people”. The Methodist School of Music (MSM) will take charge of the programme.

Last year, it held a highly successful festival at Victoria Concert Hall.

Originally scheduled for only one evening on May 19, the response was so overwhelming that the closed-door rehearsal intended for May 18 had to be changed to accommodate an Open Rehearsal. Both the evenings saw a full-house performance.

The theme for this year’s convention is “Go and Tell: Proclaiming the Gospel Today”, and the speaker is the Rev Dr Eddie Fox, World Director, World Methodist Evangelism of the World Methodist Council.

The other segments of the convention programme are:

 Aldersgate Thanksgiving Service in the late afternoon of Sunday, May 22,

 Pastors’ Fellowship in the morning, May 23,

 Aldersgate Lecture in the evening, May 23.

The Rev Dr Fox will address the Evangelistic Rally.

 The topic for the Aldersgate anksgiving Service will be based on the theme “Go and Tell: Proclaiming the Gospel Today”.

 The Rev Dr Fox will speak at the Pastors’ Fellowship. is will be followed by small group discussions and a plenary session of Q&A.

 The topic for the Aldersgate Lecture will be “Evangelising a Global and Plural World”. e Rev Dr Fox will speak after which there will be a Q&A session.
