Aldersgate Convention is here again

CALLING ALL METHODISTS.

Aldersgate Convention 2012, to be held at Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church 2 (TA 2) from May 24 to 27, is an event you should not miss: It tells you what you wish to know about the Aldersgate experience.

You will find out about John Wesley’s heart-warming experience, how he was touched by the Holy Spirit, his take on scriptural holiness, and other aspects of his Spirit-filled life. e speaker is the Rev Duleep Fernando, a former President of e Methodist Church in Sri Lanka.

The convention will begin with the Aldersgate Service on ursday, May 24, at 7.45 pm. The Rev Fernando will deliver the sermon entitled “A Heart Strangely Warmed – e Regenerating Spirit”. e service will be enlivened by the congregational singing of Wesleyan hymns to the accompaniment of the Combined Choir and musicians.

On May 25, the Rev Fernando will speak on the topic “Scriptural Holiness – The Sanctifying Spirit” at a rally, and on May 26, he will touch on the subject “ e World is My Parish – The Missionary Spirit” at the second rally. Both the talks will begin at 7.45 pm.

The Rev Fernando will address pastors at Grace Methodist Church, nearby TA 2, on May 25 at 9 am. He will share on the topic “ The Spirit-Filled Pastor” in which he will draw lessons from his personal experience as a pastor in Sri Lanka.

The convention will end with the Aldersgate Hymn Festival on May 27 which will begin at 7.30 pm. Come and be blessed by your favourite hymns from the Wesley brothers.

The Aldersgate Convention is an annual event of e Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS) to commemorate the anniversary of John Wesley’s experience of assurance in 1738 and to bring together the Methodist family to be renewed according to key themes in the Wesleyan heritage.

The theme for this year’s convention is “ The Spirit-Filled Life”.
