Bangkok seminar draws 150 pastors, leaders and students

BANGKOK — Together with the Bible Society in Thailand, Bangkok Institute of Theology (BIT), Bangkok Bible College and Seminary (BBCS) and Thailand Baptist Theological Seminary (TBTS), the Methodist Missions Society

(MMS) conducted a one-day “Seminar for the Pastors and Church Leaders in Thailand” on June 6, 2005.

About 150 pastors, seminary students and church leaders from the churches and bible colleges, especially those located in and around Bangkok, attended the seminar held in the Thai capital.

The theme of the day was “Pastoral Formation in the midst of Today’s Challenges”. The speakers were Bishop Dr Robert Solomon and Mr Danny Ng, a consultant psychologist with a hospital.

Bishop Dr Solomon’s talks were entitled “Calling and Competency” and the “Personal Transformation and Ministry”. “Towards Healthy Pastoring” was the topic of Mr Ng’s talk, and it discussed issues such as ministry burnout, risk factors, family conflicts and sexuality.

Another seminar specially arranged for the pastors of the Tuaw Muang Thai Methodist Church in Thailand (All Thailand Methodist Church) had about 20 participants not only from our churches but also the Baptist churches. The Rev Wee Boon Hup, the President of Trinity Annual Conference, and Mr Ng were the speakers.

The Rev Wee spoke on two topics — “Personal Prayer in the life of the Pastor” and “The Ministry of Prayer in the Church” — while Mr Ng touched on the subject of pastoral training in counselling and care.
