THE 2ND SINGAPORE COMPANY of The Boys’ Brigade (BB) celebrated its 80th Anniversary with a anksgiving Service and a dinner at The Pines on Sept 23, 2011.
At the service, the Rev Philip Heng, Pastor of Galilee Bible-Presbyterian Church, who was a BB Boy in the company, challenged the congregation to bear in mind the objective of the BB: the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom amongst boys, and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect, and all that leads to true Christian manliness.
The dinner programme was nostalgic as individuals shared stories of God’s great faithfulness to the 2nd Company for the past 80 years of ministry and service.
The 2nd Company has been partnering Victoria School for the past 30 years. Together, the company has developed boys and men of strong moral character and godly values who have made invaluable contributions to the school, church and nation. is heritage is passed on to successive generations of BB Boys.
The highlight of the evening was when the guest-of-honour, Mr Tan Boon Chiang, presented to Mr Sam Tan his well-deserved 2nd Company BB “Dedication and Faithfulness” Award. Part of the citation reads: “Sam Tan’s passion, dedication and drive for the BB ministry are most noteworthy. His tireless efforts to identify, source for and harness human and financial resources are most inspiring for us. He often sees the goodness of everyone he knows and ignores the shortfalls of individuals.”
Mr Sam Tan has served the 2nd Company as Captain for 19 years – its longest-serving Captain – and still plays an active role in the BB ministry. Currently, he serves as one of the Honorary Vice-Presidents (Lay) of the BB.
We are grateful to God for His grace and gifting bestowed upon the 2nd Company BB.
