An integral part of our identity as Jesus Christ’s disciples is that we are all ‘sent’, even if it is not to another country or culture, said Bishop Dr Wee Boon Hup at the Ordination and Closing Service of the CAC’s 40th Session on 11 Nov. Referring to Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:19 and John 20:21, he dispelled the misconception that only missionaries are ‘sent’ and reminded the congregation to focus on Who is behind sending us, rather than let our paths be dictated by the overwhelming needs before us.
Being motivated by God’s love and the knowledge of His sending us will help us be willing to sacrifice like Jesus did, instead of approaching people with attitudes of inferiority or superiority based on their socio-economic status, said Bishop Dr Wee.
Similarly, we should seek to carry out God’s work, rather than “following our passions or dreams”. We are tasked to proclaim forgiveness, and the terms and consequences of forgiveness, which is to forgive others just as God has forgiven us. We are also tasked to bear fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), which aids in bearing the fruits of evangelism (John 15:16).
In the cacophony of voices around us, we must catch God’s heartbeat, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to go where He sends us to fulfil His purposes.
During the service, the Rev Koh Chew Hai (below, centre) was ordained as an Elder. Pastors Lui Yuan Tze, Lau Chong Yaw and Peace Choi Pyong Hwa (below, right) were ordained as Deacons, and Dr Edwin Tay (below left, second from left) was ordained as Diaconal Minister.
