This book is a timely resource indeed! In families where the clarion call is for Dads to bring children up in the training and instruction of the Lord (and in the context where there is a dearth of resources on leading family devotions), the author’s generosity in sharing what worked in leading family devotions is a welcome move applauded by all: Dads and Mums, Children Ministry staff in churches and children themselves.

The devotions are intended for young children up to the age of 12.

In Part One, the author defines what is a family devotion time: “It’s not about teaching the Bible; it’s about creating an opportunity for your family to draw closer to God and to each other through the sharing of personal experiences.” (p. 1) He also shares with you how you can plan a family devotion schedule. In Part Two, each devotion is structured following a certain format: the Scriptural passage, the lesson or story, questions for sharing, a memory verse, prayer, and tips and suggestions for greater focus and more lasting impact of the devotions on the family.

The devotion I like best is Devotion 28 on ‘Jesus, our Friend’. The Almighty God, the Lord Himself, the King of kings and the Lord of lords calls me as Friend – this knowledge draws me ever closer to Him and as I am loved and accepted, I want my family to experience the same closeness to God. So, let’s get started on leading our family devotions!

Publisher’s note: The next book in the series is Exams, Tests and Other Scary Words: 30 Fearless Devotions About Overcoming Fears.
