Book to commemorate two events at TTC

TRINITY Theological College (TTC) has just published a book of eight essays titled “Truth to Proclaim: The Gospel in Church & Society“.

The essays were commissioned to commemorate two events at TTC: the move of the college to its new campus in September 2001 and the setting up of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in Asia last October.

The book, edited by Dr Simon Chan, Dean of Studies at TTC, is being retailed at the MBR bookstore at TTC and other Christian bookshops at $15 each.

Dr Chan, in an Introduction in the book, said: “For many, including the contributors, who have been closely associated with the college in one way or another over the years, the two events are representative of the on-going development of Trinity as a leading theological centre in South-east Asia. One represents development in ‘hardware’, the other in ‘software’, and both are essential as the college seeks to address the complex issues faced by the church in the world.”

The essays have a common aim, he said. They are concerned with one of the chief duties of theologians, namely, to engage in critical reflection on the proclamation of the Gospel as the “core practice” of the church.

The eight contributors are Bishop Dr Robert Solomon of The Methodist Church in Singapore; Dr Tan Kim Huat, Chen Su Lan Professor of New Testament and Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at TTC; Dr Hwa Yung, Director of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in Asia; the Rev Dr Daniel Koh, lecturer at TTC; the Rev Brian Michell, lecturer at TTC; Dr Mark L. Y. Chan, Senior Vice-President and resident theologian of Eagles Communications, Singapore; Dr John Carpenter, a pastor in Kentucky; and Dr Kang Phee Seng, Associate Director of the Centre for Sino-Christian Studies and Associate Professor at the Department of Religion and Philosophy, Hong Kong Baptist University.
