27TH SESSION OF THE CHINESE ANNUAL CONFERENCE: NOV 12-14, 2002
THE Chinese Annual Conference (CAC) is keen to implement several resolutions, which it adopted at its 27th Session, in the coming year.
It aims to lift the life and ministry of the CAC churches through the successful implementation of this strategy. The following are some of the resolutions:
The Board of Ministry has been asked to:
Attend to the growing needs of the English-speaking congregations;
– Provide a set of guidelines for Local Ministry Staff who are considering joining the CAC;
– Study the issue of accepting graduands from other non-Methodist seminaries.
– The Board of Laity to take up the issue of church connection. Each local church will have to provide a liaison person between the church and the Conference.
Local churches to send representatives to the Board of Communication to help carry out its work.
The Board of Evangelism to consider how to respond to Chinese converts who are concerned with the “discontinuance of the veneration of ancestors”.
The CAC President to gather PPRSC members of local churches for a dialogue to discuss common practices relating to the relationship between pastors and church members.
The Rev Khoo Cheng Hoot, President of the CAC, called on all pastors and church leaders to work together to achieve the goals of the Conference.
The Conference opened with a Holy Communion Service at Foochow Methodist Church on Nov 12. The Rev Dr Vinson Samuel, President of Emmanual Tamil Annual Conference, was the guest speaker. In a sermon entitled “Forward with Jesus Christ”, he encouraged CAC members to take Christ as their example and follow Him.
A new District Superintendent (City-East) has been appointed for the Conference. He is the Rev Dr Daniel Lee Kok Pheng, Pastor-in-Charge of Charis Methodist Church. He succeeded the Rev Dr Chong Chin Chung, Pastor-in-Charge of Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church, who stepped down for health reasons.
