Methodist Girls’ School celebrates 125th Anniversary
Through the ages …
Message from Mrs Fang Ai Lian Chairman, MGS Board of Management
“ON AUGUST 15, 1887, Methodist Girls’ School was founded by Miss Sophia Blackmore who came to Singapore with a mission – to provide girls with an education. During the last 125 years, MGS has relocated from its original home in Short Street to Mount Sophia and now to Blackmore Drive; educated many generations of students; nurtured countless talents in the realm of arts, sports and academia; groomed many business and community leaders; and in many aspects, has grown from strength to strength.
But one thing has remained constant … and that is the school’s belief to provide girls with a holistic education in a Christian environment so that they can “grow in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and Man”.
Thanks to Miss Blackmore, MGS has a rich and wonderful legacy. As the MGS family, past and present, celebrate this historic occasion of the school’s 125th Anniversary, we can all take great pride that we have, in our own special way, kept Miss Blackmore’s legacy well and alive, kept the MGS flag flying high … and lived up to the school motto : To Master, To Grow, To Serve.
I invite all of you to join us in our celebrations!”
