THE Methodist women in Singapore now have a new hall, “Methodist Women’s Hall”, which is located on the 6th floor of the new Methodist Centre at 70 Barker Road.
In celebration of the Lord’s faithfulness, the General Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service (WSCS) held a Thanksgiving Service on Jan 25, 2003 at the new premises. It reminded WSCS members of the call to continue their mission to help women grow in the knowledge of God, and to make Christ known to the world.
For most of the 300 women present, this was their visit to the hall. A deep sense of reverence filled them as the Thanksgiving Service began with the participants singing the opening hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King”.
This was followed by a march-past led by the General Conference-WSCS President, Mrs Laureen Ong, who was joined by the three Conference WSCS Presidents, Mdm Wong Pey Wah (CAC), Mrs Tamilkodi Arthur (ETAC), and Miss Sandra Fong (TRAC).
Mrs Malar Solomon, wife of Bishop Dr Robert Solomon, gave the message, “Established in the Faith”, based on Romans 4:13-25. Drawing upon the real life experiences of men and women of faith in the Bible, the message was both inspiring and thought-provoking.
Adding flavour to the celebrations were worship songs sung in Chinese, English and Tamil; a spirited Korean dance performed by CAC-WSCS members; a beautiful cultural song and dance staged by ETAC-WSCS members, and catchy renditions of two songs by TRAC-WSCS members, recounting the blessings of God and pledging their identity as women of WSCS.
The Thanksgiving Service concluded with a benediction by the Rev Ho Chee Sin, a former Bishop of The Methodist Church in Singapore, and a scrumptious tea reception thereafter.
Dolly Chia is the Vice-President of GC-WSCS.
