OBITUARY: MRS JOYCE ELIZABETH FOSTER (Dec 12, 1913 – Oct 27, 2003)

MRS JOYCE FOSTER, Acting Editor of Methodist Message (1969-1972), passed away on Oct 27, 2003 at the Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Lincolnshire, England, aged 89. She was a lay missionary serving in Singapore with her husband, the Rev Robert Foster, from 1954 to 1973.

She served in many and varied capacities, among them, Secretary to Bishop R. L. Archer, Associate Secretary of the Singapore-Malaya Annual Conference (SMAC) Board of Christian Education, Chaplain of the 11th Girls’ Brigade Company, and a Local Preacher from 1954 to 1973.

After their retirement, the Fosters returned to England, where she continued actively in counselling work before emigrating to Australia. She returned to the UK after her husband died.

Her friends will be glad to know that she maintained an active interest in the development of our Church and kept in touch through Methodist Message. She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy and Marian, who live in Australia.
