MCSL: 20 years of God’s faithfulness

To commemorate 20 years of God’s goodness and faithfulness, the Methodist Co-operative Society Ltd (MCSL) held its first social outreach event to give back to the community on 4 Dec 2015 – a movie screening for 325 underprivileged families, children and youths-at-risk.

Guest-of-Honour Mr Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament for Mountbatten SMC, thanked the MCSL for its inclusiveness in inviting beneficiaries to join them in their anniversary celebrations. Children from Daybreak Family Service Centre (FSC) under Methodist Welfare Services, Salvation Army, Beyond Social Services, Ang Mo Kio FSC, Cheng San FSC and SportCares Foundation were treated to the latest Pixar movie, A Good Dinosaur, at Golden Village at Great World City.

MCSL Chairperson Mr Timothy Yen said that MCSL’s mission is to develop, manage and invest in social enterprises to meet the needs of the community, and that giving back to the community is something close to his heart. He added that the Bible tells us that it is more blessed to give than to receive, so it is through blessing others with the services we provide that we receive. He hoped that beneficiaries would take away lessons from the movie on the values of faithfulness, bravery and the importance of building good relationships.

MCSL’s celebratory activities started in January 2015 with a logo design competition, and a Thanksgiving Dinner on 13 March for over 200 members, where Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF) Chairman Mr Chan Tee Seng and CEO Ms Dolly Goh were the guests-of-honour. The anniversary celebrations will culminate in a Thanksgiving Service in March 2016, where a commemorative coffee table book chronicling MCSL’s history is slated to be launched.
