Methodist Church in Nepal holds first annual meeting

THE METHODIST CHURCH IN NEPAL held its fi rst annual meeting here on Oct 9 last year.

Established in October 2008, the mission known as the Methodist Church in Nepal voted to accept the Provisional Book of Discipline among deliberating on other matters.

Observers from e United Methodist Church and the Korean Methodist Church were present at the annual meeting.

Bishop Dr Robert Solomon, who came for the meeting as well as to dedicate Sophia’s Home and conduct a series of workshops, challenged all who are in the Lord’s ministry to stay close to the Lord and to continually draw spiritual nourishment from Him.

Dedication Service of Sophia’s Home

Two days earlier, on Oct 7, the Bishop officiated at the Dedication Service of Sophia’s Home for girls.

Guests from various churches and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Singapore and Malaysia were present to witness and celebrate God’s goodness in providing for the new property.

The girls from Sophia’s Home presented song and dance items that warmed the hearts of the guests in the cold and wet Nepalese weather.

Earlier in the week, the Bishop, accompanied by Mrs Malar Solomon, arrived in Kathmandu to a balmy 25 degrees Centigrade on Oct 5.

They conducted parallel workshops on Methodism and the Women’s Role in family, church and society over three days.

Despite the rain over the Kathmandu valley throughout the entire three days, the sessions were packed with more than 60 participants.

Braving the rains and the slushy valley roads, the participants learned a great deal from the workshops which introduced them to the Provisional Book of Discipline drafted by pastors from Singapore and Nepal.

In responding to the plight of women in Nepal, Mrs Solomon connected well with the participants, providing direction and strategies, and encouraging them to do more for the Lord.

The Rev Erick Tan is the Mission Superintendent of the Methodist Mission called The Methodist Church in Nepal.
