MGS to go the Integrated Programme way

IN HIS NATIONAL DAY RALLY SPEECH, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that the Ministry of Education (MOE) has extended the Integrated Programme (IP) to seven more schools. Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) is among the seven schools selected.

The MOE, which launched the IP in 2004, has reported on its success – the first three cohorts of students excelled either in the “A” Level examination or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Graduates from the integrated upper secondary school-JC programme testify that the experience has not only enhanced their intellectual potential but also allowed them to cultivate the skills and habits for independent learning.

MGS will be launching the ACS (IB) – MGS Integrated Programme, making it the only all-girls school to have a through-train programme to the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme at ACS (Independent). e proposed programme for MGS will be largely similar to that in ACS (I) which introduced IP in 2004.

MGS expects to admit students at Secondary 1 in 2013 and at Secondary 3 in 2015.

While students on the IP do not have to take the GCE “O” Level examination, MGS will continue to have school-based assessments to monitor and measure the progress of these students.

It has been the tradition at MGS to promote excellence in every aspect of a total education for girls. e IP is the natural outcome of the school’s enduring drive to provide quality education so that every MGS girl grows in stature and in wisdom, and makes the difference in the community, the nation and the world.

The foundation for an effective IP in MGS has already been reinforced on several frontiers. In MGS the curriculum is rigorous, relevant and responsive.

The Sophia Blackmore Class (SBC) was introduced in 2005 to encourage higher-ability students to go beyond the boundaries of the school and its curriculum to satisfy their curiosity and thirst for knowledge.

The teachers and support staff readily embrace the duty to be competent, committed and caring in providing the ground on which their students thrive. The leaders dedicate themselves to the cause of nurturing Godly women of excellence with a Heart of Love; and in this, they and the systems they develop are nothing short of efficient, effective and excellent.

At MGS every girl is ready To Master, To Grow, To Serve! And for her, the Integrated Programme is the quintessential impetus to achieving her goals in education – and in life.
