We long for abiding peace,
For trouble and fear to cease;
But are helpless against strife,
That engulf and stifle life.
Jesus lived with persecution;
Yet in the face of crucifixion
From which He had no release,
He promised us peace.
It was for us He had to die;
The wages of sin to satisfy.
Peace is to crown Jesus Lord,
And be reconciled to God.
Peace is not absence of strife,
But the presence of God in life;
To conquer fear and adversity,
With confidence of victory.
Lord, help our striving cease,
Grant us Your abiding peace;
Replace our restless anxiety
With Your quiet serenity.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let your heart not be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
(John 14:27, NKJV)
