President’s Award for 5 BB Primers

FIVE PRIMERS WERE CONFERRED the President’s Award by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana on July 17, 2012. This highest award of The Boys’ Brigade (BB) Singapore has been presented to the top Boys in the Primers Programme (post-Secondary level members) for eight years running.

This year marks the first time President Tony Tan Keng Yam is conferring the award since his election to presidency in August 2011.

In order to attain this award, recipients have to complete the demanding requirements in leadership and service in the community, and undergo two rigorous rounds of selection. Their achievements and contributions to the BB and their community, and the extent to which they have served as role models and an inspiration to other BB Boys and Officers are considered in the assessment process. Senior Cadet Lieutenant (SCL) Ho Weng Shian served as a Primer in the 12I Singapore Company and held various portfolios within his company, school and church. He went the extra mile, giving tuition to Secondary 4 Boys in his company.

SCL Joshua Chan Yangle served in the 60th Singapore Company, and oversaw the Drill portfolio. Musically-talented from a young age, he serves as a keyboardist in his church’s music ministry. A patient and humble leader, Joshua is well-loved and admired by his juniors.

SCL Kenneth Cheng Zemin, who served in the 65th Singapore Company, displayed a passion for service and a desire to excel. He has served in many capacities within his company and at brigade-level events such as the BB Contingent Commander for the National Day Parade 2010.

SCL Lim Kang Rui Garrick was an effective mentor and trainer to his juniors in 94th Singapore Company. He served the community by volunteering at Boon Lay Group Representation Constituency and Tanjong Pagar Community Club events.

SCL Seah Ern Xu, a Primer of the 60th Singapore Company, has been actively involved in the various badge work of the Boys such as First Aid and Leadership. Ern Xu has a passion that goes beyond the brigade. He has organised several forums and projects promoting social entrepreneurship.
