Six Methodist Hostelites in Phnom Penh receive baptism

PHNOM PENH – Rain was pouring down with lightning flashing in the distance, but the atmosphere was joyous as six Methodist Hostelites – four young men and two women – received baptism here on July 31.

They attend universities in Phnom Penh and board at the Methodist Hostel supported by Aldersgate Methodist Church (AMC).

The Rev Sok Sophal, a deacon with the Methodist Mission in Cambodia, conducted the baptisms in a swimming pool at a hotel near the Methodist Centre in Phnom Penh.

Each of the six was presented with an inscribed, Khmer-English Bible by Dr Seet Ai Mee, Chairman of the AMC Missions Committee.

Following the service, all the hostelites gathered for a simple meal and fellowship.

At the request of the hostelites, the AMC mission team conducted a seminar on “time management” after dinner. Like Singaporeans, these students struggle to balance the demands of school, work and family. The session focused on the importance of identifying priorities, ensuring that sufficient time is set aside to pray and study Scripture daily.

We give thanks for the hostel ministry where university students from poor families throughout Cambodia can live in a safe, Christian environment. Here they come to know our Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, and become disciples and disciple-makers.

Buy a calendar – and help raise funds for MMS

THE METHODIST MISSIONS SOCIETY (MMS) is commemorating 20 years of God’s faithfulness and the work in Asia by producing a calendar entitled “Glimpses of Asia”.

This calendar planner showcases the faces, people and their livelihood in countries that the MMS is present – Cambodia, China, East Timor, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam.

Each month features a particular group of people with photos captured though the eyes of missionaries, mission trippers and friends of the MMS, followed by a Bible verse and a prayer.

We hope the calendar will encourage you to pray for the labourers as well as the fields that are being prepared for harvest.

The calendar is selling at $15 each and proceeds will be channelled to supporting the work and ministries in these countries through the MMS.

With every purchase of 10 calendars, we are giving away one copy free.
