A different tone than usual was struck at the MethodistWalk 2015 on 28 March 2015, organised every two years by the Methodist Schools’ Foundation (MSF) to raise funds for Methodist schools and their students.
This year, the walk came just five days after the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, and hence “our usually upbeat MethodistWalk has been converted to a Memorial Walk dedicated to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew,” said Mrs Joni Ong, Chairperson of MSF, in her tribute given before the walk began.
“The late Mr Lee stepped out of his comfort zone to give his all for Singapore. Let us walk today as a sign that we are willing to give our all as servants of Jesus, to serve others as He did.”
This spirit of service was highlighted through the walk’s theme song titled ‘So Let Us Rise Up and Walk’, which was written by Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon and put to music by Ms Shernise Khor, reminding us that “God has called us to be His hands and feet”.
