GENEVA – The World Council of Churches has published a study guide,
Telling the Truth About Ourselves and Our World, about overcoming violence.
Available in English, French, German and Spanish as part of the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica, the guide provides resources for discussion of the convocation’s central themes: Peace in the community, peace with the Earth, peace in the marketplace and peace among peoples.
The study guide was published to help individuals and churches continue to reflect and act together as the 2001-2010 Decade to Overcome Violence – Churches Seeking Reconciliation and Peace was celebrated at the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica from May 17 to 25, 2011. – United Methodist News Service.
Upper Room at the World Cup
NASHVILLE (Tennessee) – The United Methodist Board of Discipleship has been in South Africa since June 11 when the World Cup brought soccer fans from around the world to the country.
One of the board’s divisions, the Upper Room Ministries, has been giving away thousands of copies of its Upper Room daily devotional guide to fans during the World Cup, which began on June 11 and will go on till July 11.
This is the first time the Board of Discipleship has attempted such a project, and it will help celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Upper Room Ministries, according to Ms Sarah Wilke, Publisher of The Upper Room. – United Methodist News Service.
