This year, 20-year-old Yun Ze returned to volunteer at D’Joy Children’s Centre (DJCC) which he attended as a five-year-old. Yun Ze’s family had financial difficulties when he was younger. DJCC, which is run by Methodist Welfare Services (MWS), offers child and after-school student care for disadvantaged children. He has happy and vivid memories of friends, mealtimes and especially the Chinese language teacher who would persistently put him through his paces.
Life has taken him far from the modest centre that gave him his early foundation. He has since completed the International Baccalaureate and is looking forward to reading law at the National University of Singapore after National Service. “I see myself in them,” he said of the children at D’Joy. “I want to help them, just as I had received help when I was younger.”
Yun Ze was able to receive the gift of nurturing because of the support given to MWS ministries. Coming full circle, this gift continues to nurture other disadvantaged children through him.
As a charity, we are privileged to give gifts of infinite value to people in need, every day. These gifts of better futures, second chances, resilience, comfort, care and warmth impact not only the beneficiaries, but their families, loved ones and people around them.
These are the gifts that keep giving:
Hope for a better future for disadvantaged children through child and student care, bursaries, and tutoring.
Grace for a second chance for youth-at-risk through rehabilitation and reintegration to their families and communities.
Strength for families to overcome their difficulties through casework and counselling, referrals, programmes, and financial assistance.
Care for chronically-ill, destitute and frail beneficiaries through medical, nursing, and therapy aid.
Warmth of a community to socially-isolated seniors through engaging activities and wellness programmes.
Every contribution makes a ripple. Visit give.mws.sg to give a gift that keeps giving.
May the infinite love of Christ shine on you and your loved ones this Christmas. From all of us at MWS, have a blessed Christmas and New Year!
