THREE renowned speakers will be coming for the Aldersgate Convention 2003, which is set for May 21-24, 2003.
Speaking on the topic “A Reasonable Faith: Wesleyan Insights” will be Dr William J. Abraham, Albert C. Outler Professor of Wesley Studies at Perkins School of Theology in the United States.
The new headquarters of The Methodist Church in Singapore at Barker Road will be the venue.
In addition to the evening lectures and combined worship, there will also be a pastors’ fellowship on May 22 and a day-time worship seminar on May 23 and 24.
Speakers for the worship seminar are scholars Dr Geoffrey Wainwright and Dr James F. White. Pastors, worship leaders and musicians are encouraged to attend.
The worship seminar committee, headed by Ms Mary Gan of the Methodist School of Music, is planning an interactive event with opportunities for planning your own worship.
The Aldersgate Conventions are intended to bring the Methodist family together and to promote the Wesleyan vision of Christian discipleship, according to Bishop Dr Robert Solomon.
Each year emphasises one of the four aspects of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral: Scripture, Tradition, Reason and Experience. Last year, Dr Thomas Oden, the Henry Anson Buttz Professor of Theology and Ethics at Drew University, spoke on “The Church in the Wesleyan Tradition”.
The Aldersgate planning committee, headed by the Rev Dr Daniel Koh, a lecturer at Trinity Theological College and District Superintendent (East) of Trinity Annual Conference of The Methodist Church in Singapore, requests churches to leave these dates open and encourages all members and ministry staff to join in the Aldersgate celebrations.
