Of the seven winners in the inaugural “Colours of the Bible” art competition organised by The Bible Society of Singapore (BSS) and the Embassy of Israel in Singapore, we’re proud to say two were Methodists.
Well done – Nicole Kok (8) of Toa Payoh Methodist Church and Jonathan Teoh (14) of Bukit Panjang Methodist Church!
Their winning entries are now posted in our Methodist.SG Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Methodist.SG) – and you still have a few more days to make it to The Arts House to view the exhibition (till this Sun July 20, 10 am to 8 pm) of the competition entries.
The call was to “Bring the feasts and festivals in the Bible to life with art!” 86 entries were received from all walks of life across Singapore and Israel. Entries were in different media – paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, crafts and textiles.
Ms Michal Sarig-Kaduri, Deputy Chief of Mission of The Embassy of Israel in Singapore, said: “We hoped to promote cultural tolerance, a little bit of fun and a little more of your heritage and culture through this inaugural Colours of the Bible competition. We also wanted to bring out your creativity, ideas and views through this artistic platform.”
Mr Ezekiel Tan, General Secretary of BSS, noted: “Through this art competition, we hope to promote greater understanding and appreciation of each other’s culture in Singapore and Israel.”
Future runs of “Colours of the Bible” promise to be even more exciting, with a new theme and contribution from new cultures. Ms Gwen De Rozario, Associate Director of C.A.R.E. Initiatives in BSS, said: “We hope that the next Colours of the Bible will be even bigger and involve not only participants from Israel and Singapore, but from the nations. We look forward to seeing the different interpretations of the various biblical themes at our next Colours of the Bible competition from participants around the world.”
Visit the “Colours of the Bible” exhibition at The Arts House until July 20, from 10 am to 8 pm. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.
