Being a leader in the marketplace

Bishop’s Message

How are you making Christ known? This question is one that every believer should ask themselves every day. If you are placed in a position of influence, you can consider how God is using you as his ambassador in the marketplace.

Not everyone is called to go to a far-off mission field. However, the work of making Christ known is not only for missionaries or church workers—it is for all Christians.

Making Christ known in the marketplace can be more difficult than preaching the gospel in the mission field. It may seem like a daunting or overwhelming task.

Some of your colleagues or clients may have deep-seated hurts caused by the Church. Many already have preconceived ideas of Christians and Christianity that may be flawed. Talking about your faith openly could even directly affect your livelihood and ability to provide for yourself and your family. The stakes are high and the barriers to entry seem insurmountable. Where do you even start?

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

A flame, by its very nature, emits light. It does not require a lot of thought or effort. If it did not emit light, then it would not be a flame. It is the same with Christians. At the very core, just by being a good Christian, we are already making Christ known to the people around us. Our everyday words and actions should already set us apart before we even need to utter a word about the gospel, though that step is also very important.

The more time you spend in the presence of God, the more you will naturally reflect who he is to everyone around you, but be sensitive to the prompting of the Spirit. Listen and obey. Watch what God does through you.
