Website Editorial Executive
The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS) is a connectional church comprising the General Conference, three Annual Conferences, local churches, and various agencies and organisations. The General Conference (GC) is the highest body of the MCS, responsible for legislation, policy, and the overseeing of its various agencies, including the programme agencies responsible for education, missions, and welfare services.
We have a vacancy for Website Editorial Executive (Permanent Part-Time).
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Oversee and Manage Websites
- Manage website publishing matters for The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS), including Methodist Message
- Work with vendors to implement improvements of websites, including website design, development and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with the objective to increase visitors’ traffic and engagement.
- Manage and review web content uploads by vendor for Methodist Message.
- Publish articles as needed and assist in keeping MCS and Methodist Message websites up-to-date and functional.
2. Writing and Editing
- Serve as in-house journalist especially for trending or breaking news stories relevant to the Methodist community, writing articles for Methodist Message that will be published both online and in print.
- Copywriter for corporate website content.
- As a member of the editorial team, occasionally edit articles according to the style guide.
Job Requirements
- A relevant degree from an established institution or university with at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
- Strong knowledge of how digital media can be leveraged to enhance communications, with some technical understanding of how back-end web development works.
- Understanding of how to optimise content for search engines and attract online audiences, including how SEO and web development design are intrinsically linked. Understand how the corporate brand is to be articulated on the website.
- Excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and style guides. Have a nose for news that is relevant to the Methodist community.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with editorial team and vendors.
- Previous experience in a related field is preferred, in online/ digital journalism, web publishing and website development. Effective project management and organisational skills would be advantageous, on-the-job learning opportunities in these areas available.
