The Methodist Missions Society (MMS) is the missions agency of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). MMS seeks to establish indigenous churches supported by mission endeavors in communities across our region..

We have a vacancy for Executive Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Spiritual and Strategic Leadership
  • Embody, champion, and regularly review the MMS Strategic Direction (Vision, Mission, Core Values, Strategic Roadmap, Work Plans) in consultation with the EXCO, Directors, and key stakeholders.
  • Formulate objectives, strategies, and develop new mission initiatives and geographical fields in response to the changing missiological landscape.
  • Provide progress and update reports to the MMS EXCO, Annual Conferences, and the MCS General Conference as required.
  • Consult with the Bishop on all mission matters, keeping him informed and seeking clearance when required.
  1. Operational and Staff Management
  • Provide overall leadership, coordination, and oversight of the MMS office and its staff.
  • Ensure staff are focused on their roles through regular communication (e.g. one-on-ones, staff meetings, prayer meetings).
  • Conduct performance appraisals and foster staff development through training and equipping courses.
  • Build team spirit, solidarity, and optimize staff spiritual giftings and synergy to avoid duplication of effort.
  • Ensure strict staff compliance with all organisational policies (e.g. finance, governance, and HR).
  1. Stakeholder Engagement and Resource Mobilization
  • Serve as the primary ambassador of MMS to the Methodist community in Singapore and beyond.
  • Challenge, motivate, and mobilize local churches, Annual Conferences, and supporters through preaching, missions booths, and partnerships.
  • Network with Annual Conferences, Methodist churches and other mission agencies to accomplish MMS programmes and further the missions endeavour.
  1. Field Oversight and Leadership Development
  • Oversee the strategy, plans, programmes, and funding of work on all mission fields.
  • Monitor the functions and ministries in MMS mission fields through regular field visits.
  • Encourage, empower, and enhance the capacity building of National Pastors and Lay Leaders to ensure sustainability and progression (the “4 Ps”).
  • Conduct leadership consultative sessions related to church planting and community development projects.
  • Instil a spiritual discipline of prayer and intercession among field workers.
  1. Missionary and Committee Engagement
  • Oversee the holistic care of missionaries, including their recruitment, pre-service training, field assignment, pastoral care, field supervision, and retirement planning.
  • Work with local churches as partners to ensure missionaries are adequately cared for and supported.
  • Engage and leverage the work of MMS sub-committees (PBOM, Finance, Missionary Service Member Care, Education, Building Construction & Maintenance) and Task Forces to provide relevant support for field missions.

Job Requirements

  • An ordained clergy within The Methodist Church in Singapore.
  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) serving in a cross-cultural mission field orin a significant missions leadership capacity.
  • Strong spiritual, pastoral, and temporal leadership skills.
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to develop vision, objectives, and long-range plans.
  • Excellent communicator, able to inform, inspire, and involve diverse stakeholders.
  • A bridge-builder with strong networking and relational skills across cultures and organizations.
  • Competent manager with experience in team leadership, performance management, and governance.
