The historical books of the Old Testament (Joshua–Esther) chronicle roughly 1,000 years of Israel’s history, from entering Canaan (c. 1400 B.C.) to the post-exilic return. They focus on Israel’s life under God’s covenant, highlighting cycles of obedience and disobedience, the monarchy, and God’s providence.
