The Book of Judges describes a chaotic period in Israel’s history marked by the nation’s addiction to the idols in Canaan resulting in frequent subjugation by surrounding nations. God raised deliverers (judges) to free the nation but often the judges were flawed in various ways. The nation and its leaders were deeply affected by a Canaanisation process. What are the implications for the church and its leaders today in a world filled with new idols and ideologies? What are God’s purposes for us today?
