New Annual Conference Presidents elected for The Methodist Church in Singapore
Three new Presidents were elected during the 49th Sessions of the Annual Conferences in November 2024. Rev Saravana Kumar was installed as the new President of the Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference (ETAC), Rev Lek Yong Teck as the new President of the Chinese Annual Conference (CAC) and Rev Reuben Ng was as the new President of the Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC).

The ACS Board of Governors (BOG) has a new chairperson. Mr Choe Peng Sum will succeed Mr Richard Seow, who steps down after 16 years of service, with effect from 1 November 2024.

Rev Philip Lim elected new Bishop
REV PHILIP LIM, 58, has been elected the new Bishop of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). He will be consecrated on 6 December 2024, taking on the role of spiritual leader for more than 45,000 Methodists in 46 churches across Singapore. He was elected Bishop on the 7th ballot at the Church’s 13th General Conference Session held from 2 to 6 September 2024.

This decision has no influence nor impact on the position of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). Each national Methodist Church is responsible for its own position on this matter and MCS’s position is clearly stated in our Social Principles.

NCCS Statement on Retaining 377A of the Penal Code
The National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS) has released a statement on its position regarding the issue of 377A, which is clearly articulated in its 2003 statement, for it to remain unchanged. NCCS does not support the repeal of 377A. The Council therefore agrees with the 2014 ruling of the apex court concerning the constitutionality of section 377A and supports the government’s decision to retain it.
