Chinese translation by Koo Yuan Hsin

Holy silence and the state of the soul

One of the most important virtues in Christian spirituality that the Church has treasured and cultivated since its inception is silence. Regrettably, this virtue has been almost totally cast aside by the contemporary Church, especially those belonging to the Protestant/Evangelical traditions.

Serving in every season of life

My wife, Eunice, and I are founding members of Living Waters Methodist Church (LWMC). It is a privilege to see how God is using LWMC and its distinct intergenerational ministry to bless and touch lives around us. We have four children, and God has blessed us with three grandchildren.

How do I deal with my abusive mother?

My mum will get aggressive and yell at us mainly for reasons that are not our fault. Whenever we are in church together my mum will micromanage me by pinching or poking me over unimportant issues to make herself look righteous to others.

When siblings fight

As a family therapist, I have worked for many years on conflicts among family members. Conflict involving spouses, the young or the elderly often draw society’s sympathy and support but disputes between siblings generally do not get enough attention.

Creating a soundtrack of your life

Scientific research has found that music can powerfully impact those with dementia by reducing anxiety and depression, promoting cognition, speech and memory and reducing the need for antipsychotic drugs. Personally meaningful music, which stirs emotions or memories within the listener, is particularly powerful.

Rest, renewal and repurposed lives

In an ageing society, it is inevitable that a significant portion of the Church’s population is also growing older. How should the Church continue to involve and encourage seniors to stay connected and keep growing?
