Finding my place in God’s family

Edward-Hew

When I was a child, I was brought to Holy Covenant Methodist Church by my mum. I would attend Sunday school and later on, youth fellowship. Though I enjoyed being with the friends I made at church, I had gained mostly head knowledge about Christianity instead of forging a personal relationship with God. During my Junior College years, I gradually stopped going to church to focus on my studies. The members from Holy Covenant youth fellowship would text me to check in on how I was doing from time to time, a gesture which left me deeply touched. They would invite me to return to church, and I would go for services sporadically, using the hectic nature of National Service (NS) as a reason not to go.

Eventually, NS came to an end, and I felt a prompting to return to church regularly. From there, I grew closer to those around me and made the decision to enroll in Finding Your Place (FYP), a 3-month discipleship programme organised by the Chinese Annual Conference for youth and young adults. Through FYP, I learnt much about the foundations of my faith and God’s nature, causing my love for him to grow. The programme also provided me with nurturing mentors and a supportive community of believers who journeyed alongside me. Through these experiences, my faith was no longer just something I inherited, but something I personally understood and embraced.
