As a teen, I served in Vacation Bible School, and I learnt that I have a gift in connecting with children. They seem to enjoy spending time with me. I love their energy and their pure, curious minds. Hence, when our youth pastor asked if I wanted to serve in the Sunday school ministry as a teacher, I agreed.
From my two years of being a Sunday school teacher, I have a clearer understanding on how impactful Sunday school can be. Sunday school teachers can play a significant role in helping their students build a strong foundation in Christ and be rooted in his Word, so that they are able to become the salt and light of the world.
Personally, as a Sunday school teacher, I want to walk with these children as they grow, to journey with them as they wrestle with their faith. I want to be someone whom they can trust to talk about anything they struggle with. I aspire to be a Sunday school teacher who can contribute to building up children to become God- loving and God-fearing, and who are able to seek his goodness despite difficult and confusing times. The verse that inspires me is when Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14).”
