At the end of 2025, dare we hope?

As we approach the final weeks and months of 2025, we find ourselves in a world that continues to be darkened by pain, suffering and uncertainty. It is a world burdened by wars and buffeted on all sides by a myriad of existential threats.

Holy silence and the state of the soul

One of the most important virtues in Christian spirituality that the Church has treasured and cultivated since its inception is silence. Regrettably, this virtue has been almost totally cast aside by the contemporary Church, especially those belonging to the Protestant/Evangelical traditions.

Grief is a universal human experience. The loss of a loved one often leaves deep emotional, psychological and even spiritual wounds. Grief is the way in which we process the sorrow and pain that accompanies such loss. Yet some Christians believe that those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ should never grieve.

The Church must recognise the complexities of suicide

In 2020, the Singapore government decriminalised suicide attempts. This move was made based on the recognition that a suicide attempt is a cry for help, and punishment is not an appropriate or effective response. Sadly, the Church has not always understood the complexities of suicide.
