I joined the worship ministry in 2018 as a guitarist when I was still a Secondary school student, and have been serving in the ministry in school first, then in church.
To be honest, while I had some interest in growing my faith, I was actually drawn to picking up a new skill of playing the guitar. I found myself lost, focusing on the music and the technicalities of worship rather than worship itself. It was only from 2023 onwards that I began to slow down and focused on the cross and the posture of my heart. I stopped focusing on how I felt as I sang or played. In 2025, I stepped up to serve as a worship leader and felt God calling me to bring that same wrestling with my heart posture into how I chose songs and led others in worship. To me, worship is all about beholding Jesus – it is our response to who he is and what he has done for us. As 2 Corinthians 3:18 reminds me, we are being transformed into his image as we continue beholding the glory of the Lord.
Worship isn’t just the songs we sing or something we attend but it’s something we do daily. My prayer for the Church is that we would always remember the cross and God’s love for us and continually examine our hearts for anything that might take his place on the throne.
