IT’S here – the Aldersgate Convention 2004. And registration is still open for the Aldersgate Day Seminar on “Nurturing Religion of the Heart” to be held at Sophia Blackmore Hall on the 6th floor of Methodist Centre on May 21 and 22, 2004.
The early-bird concession of $50 per person has been extended to church group bookings of 10 or more until the week of the seminar. The normal registration is $70 per person. In addition, every group of 10 registered from one church will receive one free registration.
The seminar will give special attention to a pivotal Wesleyan practice, accountable discipleship. It will be conducted by the Rev Dr David Lowes Watson and his wife, the Rev Gayle Turner Watson, along with Dr Ajith Fernando, the keynote speaker of the Aldersgate Convention 2004.
The Watsons have been instrumental in developing Covenant Discipleship, a contemporary version of John Wesley’s class meetings. They will cover such topics as “The Importance of John Wesley for the Church of Today”, “A Matter of Heart and Life: Discipleship in the Methodist Tradition” and “The Role of Covenant Discipleship Groups in forming Pastoral Leadership”.
The seminar will cover seven sessions, along with a variety of worship experiences. Seminar registration fee includes lunch and tea.
The seminar is part of Aldersgate Convention 2004, an annual event which this year features Dr Ajith Fernando, National Director of the Sri Lanka Youth for Christ. He will give three talks at Barker Road Methodist Church on May 20, 21 and 22 at 7.45 pm each evening on the topics “Vital Holiness”, “Joyous Assurance” and “Overcoming Weakness”.
He will also preach at the annual Aldersgate Service on May 24 at Paya Lebar Methodist Church at 7.45 pm on the topic, “Passionate Living”.
The Aldersgate Service will feature a drama on John Wesley’s Aldersgate experience by students of Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC). It will be directed by Mrs Geetha Creffield, a teacher at ACJC.
The Methodist Combined Orchestra and Aldersgate Choir will bring a variety of hymns and contemporary Christian music.
Translation, in Mandarin and Tamil, will be available for all the events.
Parking at all events is on a first-come-first-served basis.
