Charis MC member named new URA chief

MRS CHEONG-CHUA KOON HEAN, who will become the new Chief Executive of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) from April 1, is a member of Charis Methodist Church.

She teaches children and youth at the church’s Sunday School.

Mrs Cheong, 46, who is married with two sons, studied architecture at the University of Newcastle in Australia on a Colombo Plan scholarship.

She joined the Development and Building Control Division of the Public Works Department as a planner in 1981. Six years later, she was transferred to the Planning Department, which was amalgamated with the URA in 1989.

She is currently Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) at the Ministry of National Development, and will continue to hold this post in addition to her new position come April.
