THE Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC, Dr Warren Lee, has commended the Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) and Covenant Community Methodist Church (CCMC) for jointly running the Sembawang Family Service Centre.

Dr Lee, who was opening the centre on Nov 23, 2002, was the guest-of-honour.
Operational since June 2001, it is the latest addition and the fifth Family Service Centre (FSC) under the Methodist Welfare Services umbrella.

Among those present were Bishop Dr Robert Solomon, Mr Chan Kum Kit, Chairman of the MWS, and Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of Sembawang Family Service Centre’s Branch Committee, and his committee members. Other guests included Sembawang GRC grassroots leaders, Neighbourhood Police Post officers, staff and students of neighbouring schools, members of CCMC and residents in the area.

The Sembawang Secondary School Band was in attendance.

To the delight of the guests, children of the centre put up several items, such as the recitation of a poem and group singing, to show what they have learned.

After declaring the centre open, Dr Lee presented bouquets of flowers and tokens of appreciation to volunteers of the centre.

The official opening was followed by a short Dedication Service officiated by Bishop Dr Solomon, who led in a prayer.

The centre is situated at Block 326, Sembawang Crescent #01-44 and staffed by professionally trained social workers.

Complemented by its Student Care Centre, the Sembawang FSC is a neighbourhood centre of family resources which

everyone can turn to for information on family enrichment or help in any matter relating to the family.

It aims to provide quality social services to meet the wide ranging needs of Sembawang families facing multiple stresses, regardless of race, language and religion.
