Volunteer your service, Methodist women urged

ALL Methodist women who have a desire to see women’s needs met have been invited to volunteer their services with the Methodist Women’s Ministries.

Extending the invitation, Mrs Laureen Ong, President of the General Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service (GC-WSCS), said: “We launched the Methodist Women’s Ministries in September last year to create opportunities for every woman to share the abundant life of Christ with family, church and community.

“It is our belief that the tasks given to the church cannot be fully accomplished unless women are given opportunities to use their capacities to the full in every part of church life, and be allowed to make their contribution to the interpretation of God’s message.”

The GC-WSCS, she said, would gather, train, equip and release all women into vital kingdom ministries, committing to the process of the Holy Spirit, always God-driven.

It already has in place these ministries:
Prayer – Intercessory prayer.
Counselling and Care – It has established Grace Counselling and Care at Hakka Methodist Church at 1B Evelyn  Road. This is a centre to reach out to the community and church.
Student Ministry – It is developing this ministry at its Methodist Women’s Centre at 24 Sommerville Walk.
Prison Ministry – The women are involved in In-care, After-care and Community Reintegration Programme at Changi    Women’s Prison.
Mission – Reaching the unreached, the women are involved in mission trips to Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and    China.
Social Outreach – Together with the other agencies of The Methodist Church in Singapore, the women serve as volunteers to care for the elderly, the blind, the educationally sub-normal, the shut-ins and those in hospices.

Mrs Ong said: “If you are a woman in the Methodist Church and you have never attended any of the WSCS activities, you are still part of us. Why?

“Because you are a woman in our church body who needs to be ministered to and needs to know that God can use you to minister to others.

“We are women who have a heart’s desire to see women’s needs met, especially the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the women in our church body.

“We believe God has a purpose for each of us and has given us unique gifts. Our commitment is to offer many opportunities for women to find a place to build relationships and to seek God together.

“As we set out to fulfil our mission, we help women grow in the knowledge and experience of God as revealed in Jesus Christ, and to make Him known throughout the world.”
