TRINITY ANNUAL CONFERENCE PICTURES TAKEN AT LAST YEAR’S SESSION
AS PART OF THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION of e Methodist Church in Singapore, the Young Methodist Leaders’ Conference 2010 will be held at Pulai Springs Resort in Johor from Sept 9 to 12.
The conference is open to those between the ages of 17 and 40. About 350 participants are expected.
This year’s theme – “Revolutionary Leader-Shepherd” – is the last of a three-year cycle that was started in 2008. It is all about how the main leader in any church or ministry needs to balance between being a strong revolutionary leader leading masses, providing vision, direction and strategy, and at the same time, being a kind and caring shepherd to each member of the team.
Bishop Dr Robert Solomon will deliver the opening talk on the morning of Sept 10, while the Rev Dr Wee Boon Hup, President of Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC), will close the conference with a Holy Communion Service on Sept 12.
The Rev Dr Wee, the Rev Dr Chong Chin Chung, President of the Chinese Annual Conference (CAC), and the Rev James Nagulan, President of Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference (ETAC), will give the plenary messages.
There will be four workshops: “Am I a CEO or Shepherd?”, “I Want to be a Revolutionary Leader”, “How To Form A Strong Leadership Team?”, and “Things About Leadership They Didn’t Teach in Bible School”.
On Sept 11, the Bishop and the three Annual Conference Presidents will engage the participants in a forum entitled “Christian Leadership in the Gen Y Culture”. There will be mentor group discussions and team-building activities.
Over the last 10 years, TRAC has been instrumental in equipping many young leaders in TRAC churches for both vocational and lay ministry.
Several of the TRAC pastors today either received their calling or their final confirmation into full-time ministry at one of the conferences. Many others are serving the Lord either in para-church organisations or our local churches.
The Rev Barnabas Chong, Chairman of the conference organising committee, said: “While the teaching of the Word of God and leadership and ministry skills workshops were a primary focus, what we have observed is that the Lord has His own agenda.
“Besides having learned important truths and skills, many have testified of being refreshed in God’s presence and being impressed by God about the condition and direction of their lives.
“According to our survey in 2007, many are now coming to the conference for spiritual renewal and to seek God for direction in life and ministry.
“TRAC President Rev Dr Wee Boon Hup gave the conference further impetus through his teaching on spiritual formation and renewal over the last four years.
“While the organising committee continues to seek to raise the level of equipping participants for ministry and leadership, we are very aware of the need to continue to create opportunities and quiet moments for prayer and ministry so that the Lord may fulfil what He desires.
“This year, we complete our current three-year cycle with the theme, ‘Revolutionary Leader-Shepherd’, focusing on how a revolutionary leader leading the charge must also remember the importance of one-to-one shepherding of the flock.”
