70 years of God’s grace

Pentecost Methodist Church celebrates

PECIALLY composed lyrics were sung at a celebratory service at the Kallang Theatre on May 19, 2002: “It all began at old Geylang town …”

From Geylang to Joo Chiat. From Joo Chiat to Pasir Ris. Seventy long years. Under God’s guiding hand, Pentecost Methodist Church has grown from strength to strength.

That was reason enough to celebrate, and celebrate it did at Kallang Theatre! The 70th Anniversary Sunday Service was packed full with church members, friends, well-wishers, guests and pastors, who had at one time or another, served at Pentecost Methodist Church.

The two-and-a-half-hour long service saw the Sunday School children performing at their best with their chanting, singing and dancing. There were song items from the various choirs – Youth, 9.15 am service, and the Combined (with Mandarin service choir). Two choral directors, Mrs Grace Tan and Ms Debby Lee (LMS, Mandarin Ministry), performed a lovely duet whose music was strongly reminiscent of the Flower Duet (think British Airways’ theme music).

Trinity Annual Conference President, the Rev Dr Isaac Lim, exhorted church members to give of their best – their children – to serve God fulltime. He has a special feeling for Pentecost Methodist Church as it was his first posting as a Member-on-trial (MOT).

The service ended with a cake-cutting ceremony and a rousing Hallelujah Chorus by the Combined Choir to a standing crowd. A scrumptious lunch buffet was laid for the entire congregation as befits the ending of a grand occasion.

Happy 70th Anniversary, Pentecost Methodist Church!
