The General Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service (GC WSCS) held an Extraordinary General Meeting to elect a new President on 1 November 2025 at the Sophia Blackmore Hall in the Methodist Centre. Mrs Kalaimathi Nagulan was elected President and she will serve the remaining term, until the end of the quadrennium in 2028.
Mrs Gnanamany Philip, who was elected President in December 2024, passed away in June 2025. An EOGM was thus convened to elect a new President.
Nominations Committee Chairperson Mrs Lydia Sng presented Mrs Nagulan as the candidate for the GC WSCS President position proposed by the Nominations Committee. As there were no other nominees from the floor, nominations were closed. The Acting President, Ms Neo Lay Tin, declared Mrs Nagulan President of GC WSCS.
Mrs Nagulan’s extensive involvement in the WSCS and the Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference (ETAC) bears testimony to her steadfast commitment to nurturing faith, empowering women and strengthening the church community. She is currently the Advisor and Nominations Committee Chairperson for ETAC WSCS (2022–2026), Chairperson of the Board of Worship & Music (2024–2028) and Choir Director of Emmanuel Praise (2017–present).
Previously, Mrs Nagulan had served as ETAC WSCS President for two terms from 2018 to 2022. She had also served in other leadership positions in ETAC WSCS including Vice-President, Discipleship & Nurture Coordinator and Nominations Committee Chairperson. At the GC WSCS level, she had contributed as Witness & Evangelism Coordinator (2022–2024) and Nominations Committee Chairperson (2016–2018).
A committed member of the Tamil Methodist Church, Short Street, Mrs Nagulan balances her ministry with her vocation as a teacher with the Ministry of Education. Married to Rev James Nagulan, ETAC’s District Superintendent and former President, she had served as Advisor to all the Local WSCS at the churches where Rev Nagulan has pastored over the years. They have three children.
“We give thanks to God for Mrs Gnanamany Philip’s faithful leadership and dedicated service,” Mrs Nagulan said. “I am deeply humbled and thankful for the confidence placed in me to serve as President. This is not my work alone, but God’s work through us as a team. With unity, prayer and love, we will serve wholeheartedly for his glory,” she continued, adding that she takes inspiration from Colossians 3:23 which says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
At the EOGM, the Second Treasurer—Ms Doreen Tan Aw Yee, who is a member of Grace Methodist Church—was also elected. This position was previously vacant.
Both Mrs Nagulan and Ms Tan were installed in a short ceremony conducted by Bishop Philip Lim, Bishop of The Methodist Church in Singapore.
