SEPTEMBER 1 and 2, 2005 were milestones in the annals of The Methodist Mission in Cambodia.
On those two days, it held its historic Second Annual Meeting at Toul Kork Methodist Church in the compound of The Methodist Centre in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. Three Cambodian pastors were ordained as the country’s first set of elders on the second day of the meeting.
Also on Sept 1, there was a Dedication Service for Emmaus Women’s Centre in Beung Anchagn Village, outside Phnom Penh. About 350 people, including guests from Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United States and Singapore, attended the service. Bishop Dr Robert Solomon delivered the sermon entitled “The Emmaus Experience” based on the Scripture text from Luke 24:13-34.
Following the service, Mr Ith Sam Heng, the Cambodian Minister of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation, officially opened the centre. Bags of rice and goody bags containing biscuits, chocolates and sweets were then given to the villagers and school children in Beung Anchagn. They were gifts from the Methodist Missions Society.
