Charity golfers united to raise funds for MSF

A fund-raising golf tournament was organised by the Methodist Schools’ Foundation (MSF) on 28 August 2025. More than $255,000 was raised, and these funds will be channelled to support students from disadvantaged households. About 120 golfers from the Methodist community—including school alumni, Methodist church members and friends whose children had benefited from a Methodist education—played at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines Course.

Established in 1997, MSF supports all Methodist educational institutions in Singapore by funding the construction and maintenance of school buildings and facilities, as well as providing for educational equipment and teaching aids. In line with its mission of standing in the gap, MSF also offers subsidies, grants and bursaries to students in financial need.

Guest-of-Honour Mr Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of Parliament, commenced the event with a “tee off together” with three flight mates. Despite the tournament taking a pause due to lightning alerts, the afternoon proceeded smoothly and concluded with dinner and a silent auction. Mr Seah reiterated PM Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally call for a “we first” society and encouraged everyone to look out for each another.

Mr Richard Hoon, a board director of St Francis Methodist School and one of the charity golfers, was moved to learn about the work of MSF. He said, “I support MSF’s efforts because of its commitment to uplifting underprivileged children regardless of the strength of their schools’ alumni network. These children deserve our support and attention.”
