St Francis Methodist School (SFMS), a private international school in Singapore, commemorated its 65th Anniversary in May with a series of events showcasing its history, present-day initiatives and future direction.
From its founding in 1960 with just 27 students, SFMS has developed into a well-established private institution, offering primary, secondary and pre-tertiary education in an international school environment. The school provides various education pathways for students from diverse backgrounds to pursue internationally recognised academic qualifications, including the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), GCE O-Levels, International Baccalaureate and Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). At the same time, the curriculum fosters holistic growth and character education grounded in Christian values.
Anniversary Service & Carnival: A day of reflection and community
On 22 May 2025, SFMS celebrated with an Anniversary Service and Carnival at its campus as part of its 65th Anniversary commemorations.
Held at the Sanctuary Hall, the morning’s activities began with a dedication ceremony featuring a school introduction video, messages from school leadership and the official opening of the renovated school building. In his sermon, Bishop Philip Lim, who was the Guest-of-Honour, encouraged the student body from Proverbs 4:20-23, telling them to “pay attention to the Word of God” and “guard their hearts” above all else.
A guided tour followed, allowing attendees to view the upgraded facilities, including a new history gallery wall. The Anniversary Carnival featured 22 interactive stalls run by students, partner organisations and community groups.
Mr Lee Hak Boon, Principal of SFMS, said, “Our journey has been one of transformation—providing education to those in need of an opportunity to study, offering second chances and evolving into a school of choice which produces successful graduates who embody excellence and service. Today, we are proud to have nurtured many who have gone on to succeed in life, thanks to the holistic education they received here. This would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our teachers and the strong academic and co-curricular programmes we offer. At SFMS, every student matters. We are dedicated to excellence and to helping every child reach their fullest potential.”
Among several school-wide activities to celebrate this milestone anniversary, a Gala Dinner will be held on 3 October 2025 at CHIJMES Hall to end off the anniversary celebrations. A primary school performance, titled Starry Journey, will showcase the talents and efforts of the school’s younger students.
