Choir from Cornwall to raise funds for Methodist School of Music with Oct 17 concert
Named after the Cornwall County’s National Song, Trelawny, the choir comprises 90 members brought together from male choirs throughout Cornwall.
It was invited to sing at the International Festival of Male Voice Choirs Gala Concert at the Hall of Cornwall in Truro on May 7, 2007.
Many members of the choir had been with The Kernow Choir which toured southern Australia in May 2003 where they sang at the Town Hall in Adelaide, the Toorak Church in Melbourne and the Sydney Opera House.
The choir’s Musical Director for the tour is Ms Elaine Tangye, an experienced accompanist and music director.
Sharing the duties of accompanist for this tour will be two accomplished musicians, Ms Elizabeth Sidebotham and Mr Philip Taylor.
Ms Sidebotham studied piano from an early age and began to accompany choirs at the age of 14, taking part in many competitions. She is currently an accompanist to five choirs and plays with two bands.
Mr Taylor, a largely self-taught pianist and organist, has been an accompanist and musical director. In recent years he has chaired several musical events and festivals.
Tickets for the concert at $15, $20, $25, $30 and $35 (excluding SISTIC fees) are available through SISTIC Hotline: 6348-5555 and SISTIC authorised agents islandwide.
