THE Rev Dr George Freeman, General Secretary of the World Methodist Council (WMC), was in Singapore recently to meet separately Bishop Dr Robert Solomon and the Rev Dr John Barrett, Vice-Chairman of the WMC.
He met the Bishop at his Methodist Centre office on Feb 27 to discuss matters relating to the 19th World Methodist Conference, which will be held in Seoul from July 20 to 24, 2006. The Bishop is one of the keynote speakers at the once-in-five-years conference, which has as its theme, “God In Christ Reconciling”.
The Rev Dr Freeman said he was pleased with the “close ties and likemindedness of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS) with The United Methodist Church”.
Bishop Dr Solomon presented two books published by the MCS to the Rev Dr Freeman. They are The People Called Methodists, which records the heritage, life and mission of the MCS, and Sparks of Grace, which tells the story of Methodism in Asia.
The Rev Dr Freeman also had a separate meeting with the Rev Dr Barrett on matters pertaining to the upcoming World Methodist Conference. The Rev Dr Barrett is the Principal of ACS (International) here.
