For 135 years, Methodist Message (MM) has been more than a newsletter. It has been a witness to God’s faithfulness, a keeper of memories, and a voice connecting generations of Methodists in Singapore and beyond.
Its story began in October 1891, when The Malaysia Message was first published as a monthly publication to keep supporters informed about the work of Methodist missionaries in the region. Its original purpose was simple but significant: to share news of the Methodist mission, encourage prayer and support, and declare His praise in the islands.
In June 1953, The Malaysia Message became The Methodist Message. Through wars, social change and the growth of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS), the publication continued to chronicle the lives, ministries and concerns of God’s people. Apart from the disruption during the Japanese Occupation, it has maintained a remarkable continuity.
Today, MM remains the official publication of MCS, bringing readers stories, reflections, commentaries and news from across our Methodist family. Its mission remains deeply rooted in its heritage: to inform, inspire, edify and connect.
Yet 135 years is not simply a milestone to celebrate—it is an invitation to look ahead. The world has changed dramatically since that first issue in 1891. Digital media and changing patterns of communication present fresh opportunities for MM to tell the Methodist story with relevance, creativity and faithfulness.
